Veterans Group Praises Biden’s Environmental Actions, Says It’s a “New Day for Public Lands”
Washington, D.C. — Today President Biden announced plans to pause fossil fuel extraction on all federal lands.
In reaction to the announcement, Vet Voice Foundation’s Major General (Ret.) Paul Eaton, a US Army veteran, released the following statement:
“After four years of climate change denial and disastrous policies that ravaged our environment and sold off our public lands to the interests of millionaire fossil fuel executives, it is great to finally have a leader in the White House who sees our nation’s public lands and waterways as the treasures that they are rather than spots on the map for exploitation.
“President Biden’s executive orders today are proof of that. By halting oil and gas drilling on public lands and setting aside more of our wild spaces for conservation is demonstrating the leadership we need to tackle climate change and keep Americans healthy.
“It is a new day for our public lands. Veterans and military families have long-championed and advocated for our public lands and environment. We understand the importance they serve as spots of national healing and solemnity and we understand our responsibility to protect them for future generations.
“We look forward to working with President Biden, Vice President Harris and Secretary-designate Haaland as they continue to protect America’s wild spaces and public lands.”
