Trump Administration Eviscerates Endangered Species Act
Today, despite devastating new reports of catastrophic species loss, the Trump administration just finalized regulations that would gut the Endangered Species Act—our nation’s most effective law for saving imperiled wildlife from extinction.
In response, Kate Hoit, Iraq War veteran and California Director for Vet Voice said:
“America’s heritage includes its natural heritage, and its unique wildlife. That’s why our country mobilized to save the majestic American Bald Eagle from extinction. Today, Donald Trump is gutting the very law that allowed us to do so.
As veterans, we have a responsibility to protect America’s natural heritage—including wildlife—for future generations. So, we will continue to fight and defend some of our most vulnerable species.
What we will not allow to happen is for this administration to continue to terrorize our environment at the benefit of the industries that Secretary Bernhardt had as clients while working as a lobbyist for mining companies, oil and gas companies, and powerful water users in the West. Trump and Bernhardt’s Extinction Plan would make it more difficult to extend protections to threatened species, delay lifesaving action until a species’ population is so small it may be challenging or impossible to save.
We will not sit idly by and let corrupt profiteers like Trump and Bernhard steal America’s heritage from future generations.”
