Statement of Vet Voice Foundation on new EPA Methane Rules
Washington, DC — The following is the statement of Marine Corps veteran and CEO of the Vet Voice Foundation, Janessa Goldbeck, on today’s announcement by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) strengthening its proposed standards to cut methane and other harmful air pollution:
“On behalf of veterans across the country, we are grateful to President Biden for taking strong action to reduce the waste of America’s energy resources, improve our air quality and strengthen our national security. New EPA safeguards to cut methane and other harmful pollutants from oil and gas operations can combat climate change and bring more natural gas to market as the U.S. works to supply Europe this winter and the world transitions to a clean energy future. To accomplish this, the new protections must eliminate pollution from routine flaring as well as requiring zero-pollution pneumatic controllers and pumps and require regular inspections of small wells with leak-prone equipment.”
