Vet Voices Guest Instructions
Invited as a guest to join Vet Voices? Here’s what you need to know:
Before the broadcast
Laptop or Desktop (Preferred)
Make sure you have the following:
- A laptop or desktop with a webcam and mic.
- The most recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Opera browser.
- A strong internet connection. Just like Zoom or Skype, you must have a strong internet connection for it to work well. If possible, connect to your router with an ethernet cable instead of WiFi.
- We recommend wearing earbuds or headphones to prevent audio echoes.
Mobile Devices
If you don’t have a laptop or desktop, you can also join the StreamYard studio on your mobile device such as a phone or tablet!
Android
If you are using an Android device, we recommend the Chrome browser.
Apple IOS
If you are using an iOS device such as an iPad or iPhone, we recommend downloading our mobile app from the Apple app store. Click here to download the StreamYard App! For instructions on how to use our app to join a studio as a guest, check out our article here. If you don’t want to use the app, you can also join the studio directly from the Safari browser.
If you’re on iOS 14.2, we recommend updating your device before joining. iOS 14.2 has some issues with audio stuttering.
Location & Lighting
We suggest joining the broadcast from a private, quiet room indoors. Background noise will be picked up by the microphone. A bright light or window in front of you works best. Broadcasting in front of a bright light or window will place you in a shadow.
Joining the broadcast
When the time comes, follow these steps to enter the broadcast studio:
- The host or producer will provide you with a link before the show. Open the link in a supported browser (see above) for your device and you’ll be taken to their broadcast studio.
- Allow StreamYard to access your camera and mic.
- Make sure you have the correct camera and mic selected.
- Enter a display name. Use your full name (ie., Jane Doe).
- Check that you are centered in the camera view and your eyes are above the center line (see above image).
- Click “Enter studio”.
- The producer & host will be informed that you’re in the studio. They will bring you into the main broadcast to do a mic/camera check and discuss the run-of-show.
You won’t be part of the main broadcast until the host or producer adds you. While not in the main broadcast, your mic will be muted.
Note: Let the producer/host know if you have any content you’d like to share from your desktop or any videos/graphics you would like to share on the broadcast.
During the broadcast
Once you are in the broadcast, you will be able to:
- Participate in the broadcast with camera and microphone
- The producer will share your screen, videos, and slide presentations.
- Communicate with other participants and the producer using private chat
- View comments on the broadcast (if the host uses them)
