Senator Cantwell & Local Veterans Hold Press Conference Urging Congress to Save Land and Water Conservation Fund
(Seattle, WA) – On Monday August 13th, local veterans and Senator Maria Cantwell will hold a press conference at Green Lake Park to urge Congress to sign on to a bill to permanently reauthorize the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that already has 46 bipartisan co-sponsors.
The LWCF is a conservation program set up in 1965 that costs ZERO tax payer dollars. The fund uses offshore drilling leases to build urban green spaces and preserve historic sites. If LWCF is not reauthorized by a September 30th deadline, the program might disappear.
Veterans support the LWCF because it is a great tool to protect America’s natural heritage and provides outdoor recreation areas like ball parks and bikes paths in local communities across the country
Over 8,000 Vet Voice Foundation recently signed a letter asking for our leaders to support LWCF and the organization released a position paper highlighting why the program is a priority to the veteran community.
The fund is also critical to protecting military battlefields, so Americans have the opportunity to learn from the past and understand the sacrifices our service members have made.
